Inner tubing 4 miles down the Clackamas River is not exactly what comes to mind when people think of the subcultural gothic community; however, we had a blast the last 3 years and in 2017 nearly 200 of us showed up, so let's do it again!

This event is free (except for parking) and as the weeks go I’ll be posting helpful links on appropriate inner-tubes, what to bring to make your float more enjoyable and what to expect overall.

DETAILS:
11:00 — 12:00 | SETUP | Look for a black BMW sedan with red balloons attached to it near the boat loading dock, this will be our meeting point.

12:00 | DEPART | This is when we'll be getting on the river, so please make sure that your tube is inflated and you are at the loading dock ready to go by 12:00 sharp.

LUNCH: We will be stopping 1/2 way down the river to get out and have lunch on the bank and take a break. Word of advice, put your lunch in a waterproof bag.

STARTING POINT:
Barton Park ($5 parking fee)
19009 SE Barton Park Rd
Boring, OR 97009

END POINT:
Carver Park ($5 parking fee)
14888 S Springwater Rd.
Oregon City, 97045

IMPORTANT: Bring inner tubes that are made for river floating, anything made for a swimming pool will NOT last if you hit rocks. Popina Swimwear here in Portland carries the River Run inner tubes and those are really good quality and perfect for this trip. They carry both the single and double inner tubes.

ALSO [VERY] IMPORTANT: While the Clackamas is a easy river to tube on, it is still a river and there are sections where the currents underneath are faster than expected and certain areas have pockets of whirlpools. While not required, it is encouraged to wear a life vest if you are not a strong swimmer.

IF YOU ARE BRINGING CHILDREN: put a life vest on them. no exceptions. Drownings have happened in this river, even by strong teenagers.

SUGGESTIONS FOR WHAT TO BRING: Please check out the posts that I will make here on the event invite as we get closer to the date for a list of great suggestions on quality inner tubes, gear, accessories, etc.

TRANSPORTATION: there is NOT a shuttle bus between the two parks so I recommend people coordinate with their friends to park some vehicles at Carver Park first so that they'll have a way to return to their vehicles up at Barton Park at the end of the day. I will bring my own large SUV with me to help cart people from the end point back to the starting point.
