Co hosted by Ziji Collective and Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice. To commemorate one full year of walking meditations circling the ICE Building in SW Portland, we will meet at Willamette Park at the uncovered picnic tables south of the boat launch, for a ceremony. Those who choose to do so will then walk one mile, meditatively, to the OccupyICEPDX camp which now occupies the space where we have been walking for the past year. This event is FREE and open to the public, whether or not they have experience meditating, and whether or not they have joined us for these «Thawing ICE» walks throughout the past year, 2017-2018.
Our plan is to gather at Willamette Park to meditate, share, and hold space for everyone’s experience of the walking meditations and all that has been happening over the past year as a result of ICE raids and Federal immigration policies.
Then we will have an optional meditative walk for one mile, to the OccupyICEPDX camp where we have held our walks over the past year. Our ceremonies will conclude there. Those who want to walk but have mobility issues might consider carpooling with people who leave cars near the camp, to drive you back to your car at Willamette Park. Of course using public transportation is always helpful. The NS Streetcar stops one block from the ICE Building. For buses, check Trimet Trip Planner.
