Donna Haraway is one of contemporary philosophy’s most important and vital thinkers, her work playful and wide ranging in a time of doom-and-gloom diagnosis. With a background in the history of science and technology, and justifiably famous for foundational, intersectional texts like “A Cyborg Manifesto: Science, Technology and Socialist-Feminism in the Late Twentieth Century” (1984) and Primate Visions (1990), Haraway quickly became a heroine for generations of cyberfeminists. Terranova’s incisive film is a deceptively simple yet highly engaging portrait of Haraway, delving into major strands of her thought while illuminating her infectious spirit of discovery. Story Telling for Earthly Survival is a portrait of a thinker trying to make the most of life in the ruins, in all its myriad forms.
