3 Portland Bands bringing a great mix of Funk, Soul, World Beats and Rock!
Are you ready for your Soul Progression?
Soul Progression is born of Portland’s unbound music scene, and hangs on the tongues of those charmed by its provocative sound at eminent Portland venues. The band is composed of five “Soulies” who lay down musical fusions of soul, pop, blues, acoustic and funk: K’lyn Bain (Lead Vocalist), Brian “B.B.” Bays (Lead Guitar & Vocalist), Dave Kelsay (Drums), Timothy James Hornickel (Bass) with guest appearances by James Lawrence (Saxophone).
In addition to cultivating the labyrinth of Portland stages, Soul Progression — true to its name — has appeared to raise money at multiple Cancer Foundation and other benefit shows. Its first radio exposure on Portland’s KBOO has spawned pursuit with the Willamette Week, Portland Tribune, multiple local web publications and radio spotlights.
Soul Progression is baring its essence and soulful acoustics after recording with Rola Studios and Mountain Air Studios. Spring of 2017 brings the promotion of Soul Progression’s self-titled album! Visit Soul Progression’s web page for info on all of 2017’s events…
“Put your ear down close to your soul and listen hard.” ― Anne Sexton
Formed by Singer/Saxophonist, Chelsea Luker, in collaboration with Rick Bouvette- bass, Eric Hickey- guitar, and Keith Abbott- drums, JoyTribe is a passionate fusion of Pretenders inspired vocals meets Prince and Pink Floyd's psychedelic funk child.
Chelsea initiated JoyTribe with the goal of making genre splitting fusion in a democratic writing situation. After 5 years with Mars Retrieval Unit, and a little break in Thailand, she took time searching for the right fit of musicians. Once she reacquainted with former MRU bassist Rick B., everything fell into place. Initially imagining a mix of electronic, prog and funk, the music made up it's own mind to veer towards world inspired funk. Songs lean heavily on reggae, latin and african elements, paired with vintage rock vibes. This is due to Eric's study of latin percussion and flamenco, Rick's love of Reggae, and Keith's strong connection to classic bands like Pink Floyd. With the recent addition of Electro Looping guru, Gil Assayas of Glasys, the vibe can go anywhere during a show.
The mood of the band is intense and sometimes shy, a little silliness bursts through, but there is a very strong sense of passion, focus and love during live performances.
JoyTribe has been performing around the NW for over two years now, opening for international touring acts such as Balkan Beat Box, Dumpstafunk and Kung FU. They recently finished a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund their first EP featuring original songs and one adapted cover. «We Insist» is now available for purchase on iTunes. The band is currently working on two new singles, to be released this Spring.
