Hunter Gather — on tour supporting their debut full length «Getting To Know You» — team up with The Crenshaw and Paper Gates. 8pm, $5-15 sliding scale.
avant-jazz/post-rock filtered through a cathartic and experiment lens, drawing on influences from French Renaissance music, minimalism, jazz, noise and Appalachian Folk melodies. Dueling electric guitars weave and intertwine with a singing tenor saxophone, padded by undulating drums.
The Crenshaw can allude to tensely repetitive footwork and juke beats, explosive art rock, ambient minimalism and delicate free improvisation all in the span of 3 minute songs that employ stuttery drums, warped synths, dastardly bass/voice counterpoint and self-effacing or darkly humorous lyrics.
Paper Gates is bass clarinetist Andy Rayborn, alone. This is music for people who like to sit on the roof, look at the stars, and think about the future: minimalist soundscapes that hint at 70's ECM, 80's ambient, and the floatiest of modern Indie music that wrap around you as you take the first drag of the first cigarette of the rest of your life.
