Savor the power and beauty of Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light, an imaginative musical accompaniment to Carl Dreyer’s 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc. Screening in partnership with Northwest Film Center, as part of their 34th Reel Music Festival.
Voices of Light will showcase the combined talents of Camerata PYP, In Mulieribus 7-voice female ensemble, and three Portland State University ensembles— Portland State Chamber Choir, Vox Femina, and Man Choir—as well as celebrated vocal soloists Catherine van der Salm, Hannah Penn, Brian Tierney, and Anton Belov.
All Classical Portland is the official media sponsor.
This unforgettable film, on any list of cinema’s best, transcends its era and breathes life into ever-urgent questions of gender, religious devotion and persecution. Einhorn’s brilliant composition underlines and amplifies the drama of Dreyer’s classic.
