Screaming Sky is excited to show new work from Portland’s Melissa Monroe and Liz Harris. Prolific in their respective media of painting and ceramics, these two artists will transform our space alongside each other for another Last Thursday Street Fair.
Melissa Monroe paints in a bold and expressionist style like the rock ‘n’ roll lovechild of Kandinsky and Basquiat. From her bio: «I am a full time artist and mother of 3 kids under the age of 10. I started painting less than 4 years ago and have been full time for 3 of them. I paint everyday and have created over 1000 pieces of art… Painting is my passion and has changed my life. My artwork is an emotional display… A journey into the past and future. A history of a land that no-one can remember, a place that has been forgotten and a puzzle to learn the future.»
Liz Harris creates monstrous, large-scale sculptural installations often exploring environmental politics in addition to crafting functional cups, pipes, and more. From her bio: «Liz Harris is an intermedia artist who lives and works in Portland, OR. Her work is based in sculpture, animation and video, which often culminate into installations that combine all three disciplines. Her work investigates the creation and value of multiples with a focus on craftsmanship, process and repetition. Harris received her Bachelor of Fine Art from the Pacific Northwest College of Art.»
Melissa Monroe and Liz Harris’ work shows Thursday, July 27th with a reception from 5 to 9 PM and will remain up for view through Monday, August 28th. Work will be available to purchase both in the gallery as well as on Screaming Sky’s website.
