DJ Mark Pharoah (UK/PDX)
DJ Mark Pharoah, An aspiring DJ artist & Producer whom over a number of years has entertained a variety of crowds & lovers of house throughout the UK. Tune into the Super Soul Fried Disco radio show every other Thursday from 8PM to 10PM (GMT) on SSRadio UK aswell as catch him spinning live at a variety of House nights throughout the UK. With over 18 years of dj'ing experience you could certainly say he knows his music. From back in the early days growing up listening to his parents collection of Northern Soul and Tamla Motown records, he was captivated by soulful vocal tracks that had a strong positive message. Soon after he discovered Disco and as a 10 year old boy in the mid 1980's you would find him at the weekend flea markets buying old disco records with his pocket money. As electronic music expanded in the 80'selectrofunk came onto the scene as the Street dance and Breakdance phenomena exploded, he was drawn to new electronic sounds I was hearing and the energy they produced. Influenced by pioneers such as Afrika Bambaata electronic dance music was paving the way for the House music revolution in the late 1980's. As his record collection grew he started to create mixtape's for himself and his friends, which went down so well he was able to sell them in the school playground. But it wasn't till he was 18 years old after his first independent holiday abroad to the balearic island of Ibiza in 93' that he was convinced to buy his first pair of Technic 1210's. Having watched the likes of David Morales, Graham Park, Sven Vath, Carl Cox switch from record to record seamlessly playing to the huge crowds on the white isle. Practising and honing his skills within the confines of his bedroom, his passion for House music was increasing at an alarming rate. He was now getting the chance to play out at local parties, introducing many people to a new sound which allowed them to dance and express themselves. As word spread around I was asked to DJ at the most popular clubs at that time in his area. As his name was becoming more popular he was asked to DJ where for him it all started in Ibiza. DJ'ing at beach parties and after parties alongside some of his heros. After a hectic period DJ'ing in the mid to late 90s...the local scene died down and other commitments in his life took over. It wasn't until late last year until he began listening to SSRadio which convinced him to get back on the decks. He says, «I sent some mixes to the guys over there and was given a slot for my brand new show Super Soul Fried Disco show. Having been away from the scene for quite a while I didn't expect to gain many listeners but was soon overwhelmed at the amount of interest the show has gained in such a short space of time.» Personally this is down to the quality of the selections he makes for each show and his mixing ability which allows them to be enjoyed seamlessly. 8 months later the show has picked up listeners from all around the world and is well respected on the station. Having played at Ministry of Sound, Fabric, EGG in London and a 2 year residency at the Horse and Groom and played alongside such talent as The Revenge, Mark E, Eric Duncan, Andrew Weatherall he's now moved stateside in Portland, Oregon.

Simon Howlett (UK/PDX)
Dad-house enthusiast Simon can be found shuffling around playing records in some of Portlands dark basements, most regularly at Folding|Space where along with Centrikal and Micah McNelly where they’ve cultivated a quality before everything else vibe. A musical upbringing in the North of England brings a certain underground sensibility to people’s music taste and this runs through anything you’ll hear Simon play, from slowmo re-disco edits to deep dark New Order-esque baselines there is always a tinge of the unexpected, not too obvious in his selection.
Before settling down at Folding|Space Simon bounced around in Iowa for a few years, hosting a weekly radio show ’Technical Itch’, before that whilst still allowed to live in his native England, Simon spent a few years confusing indie kids in the North West by attempting to cross them all over to house music in infamous fleapit nightclubs like Preston’s Warehouse and Lord Byron's. He has never really recovered from being invited play at Glastonbury in the early 2000’s, after expecting a life changing experience, then turning up to discover a DJ setup in what can only be described as an extra large portable toilet, lifelong scarring occurred.
